Gardiner, Samuel Basson, engelsk historieskrifvare, f. 1829, professor i nyare tidens historia vid "Kings college" i London. G. har utgifvit följande arbeten: A history of England from the accession of James I to the despatch of chief justice Coke, Prince Charles and the Spanish match; A history of England under the duke of Buckingham and Charles I; The personal govemment of Charles I; The fall of the monarchy of Charles I (1881); The thirty years war; An outline of English history, The first two Stuarts och The Puritan revolution (de bägge sistnämnda i det af flere författare utgifna seriearbetet "The epochs of modern history"). Tillsammans med Mullinger har G. författat Introduction to the study of english history, hvilket arbete bl. a. innehåller en redogörelse för de i tryck tillgängliga källorna till Englands historia.
