B. Chr. Vedeler: Ovaritis

NORD. MED. ARKIV, 1904. Afd. II. (Inre medicin.) Haft 1. N;r 3.

Ovaritis^)

by

B. CHR. VEDELER. M. D.

Christiania.

The connectioD between ovaritis and dysmenorrhasa is that which interests me.

Wliat I advance about ovaritis is but an introductory lecture.

»Chronic Oophoritis», it is said in one of the modern gynecologies, »is a chronic swelling of the ovary, coupled with sensitiveness. It presents a very different phase and contains very much that does not strictly belong to the same series, but which pathological anatomy may, in time, teach us to discriminate.»

The clinical phase is that to which I will adhere, adding the few acute cases with which I have met, but omitting those cases where the tumour found was larger than a walnut; the differential diagnosis between expansion of tubes and ovaritis often being impossible without operation. Those cases are also omitted where simple periovaritis was found.

»It occurs», it is said, »in virgins and unmarried persons as often as in married; in the latter especially with those who have one or no child.» — Among 5,903 female patients 1 have found 66 cases of Ovaritis =: 1 %.
