Prichard [pri'ttjerd], James Cowles, engelsk etnolog, f. 1785, blef medicine doktor 1808, praktiserade i Bristol, men fann dock tid att, trots sin vidsträckta praktik, egna sig åt antropologiska studier, hvilkas vigtigaste resultat han framlade i det betydande verket Researches on the physical history of man (1813; 4:de uppl. 1847, 5 bd). Äfven inom medicinen utgaf han flere arbeten. 1845 öfverflyttade P. till London och dog 1848.
